World Leisure properties - Mauritius

Going to Mauritius for the first time in 12 years was quite exciting.  Our group met at the check-in counter for Air Mauritius at Cape Town International Airport.  Within minutes we were all checked in and on our way. The direct flight from Cape Town on Air Mauritius is very convenient even if you only arrive in Mauritius at 21h30.

After going through customs and picking up our bags in Mauritius, we were met by our local guides. It was about a 50 minute drive to reach our first hotel – The One& Only Le Saint Geran – on the east coast.

The friendly staff from the One & Only Le Saint Geran met us and we were quickly checked in. Getting to the rooms, our bags were already there and our private butler explained where everything was. A light meal was served in our rooms.

We were up early the next morning for a wonderful breakfast and a sight inspection. This is really a beautiful property with lots of activities and a great kids club. Everybody could most certainly be kept busy and happy for a long time!

Our next site inspection was at the Veranda Palmar Beach Hotel. This is a 3 star property and not very big but nice and cozy! 

Even though it is a smallish property it still has all the facilities necessary for a great holiday including a Seven Colors Spa and Wellness center, restaurants, beach with all the sports and a kids club.

After a refreshing drink we were off again to our next overnight stop – the beautiful and new Long Beach Hotel. This hotel opened in 2011 and is truly a magnificent property. The Hotel offers guests many opportunities – from a climbing wall to a destination Spa. I would definitely suggest this hotel for Honeymooners or couples looking for a great holiday.

The next morning we went on a Catamaran Cruise which included drinks and a barbeque on board. They took us to view a beautiful waterfall and afterwards there was plenty of time for snorkeling. We then headed for Ile Aux Cerfs where we were met by our hosts for the night from the amazing Le Tousserok Hotel.

Arriving at Le Tousserok with the ancient Banyan Tree at the entrance, we were again welcomed in true Mauritian style. This hotel is absolutely amazing and beautiful with 3 beaches and a private island. The Bernhard Langer 18 hole golf course on Ile aux Cerfs also belongs to this hotel and the guests can play a complimentary 18 holes while staying at any of the World Leisure properties. I will recommend this hotel for anyone wanting a breakaway. From families with small children to honeymoon couples. It covers something for everybody!

The next day we did site inspections at 3 Veranda properties. Veranda Paul & Virginie – definitely a couple’s hotel!

Veranda Grand Baie – a great family getaway in the heart of Grand Baie with all its attractions.

Veranda Point Aux Biches room

Veranda Point Aux Biches is also great for families or couples. It offers 30 rooms and the Privilege Club is seen as a hotel within a hotel. It offers a quiet pool and other amenities specifically targeted at couples.

After a rather full and busy day we headed for La Pirogue where we spend the night. This is a huge 4 star property right next to Sugar Beach. It is a great hotel for families with enough activities to keep even the busiest of people happy for days on end! The restaurants and activities are also interchangeable with the 5* Sugar Beach. Because the property is so big one will never feel crowded in any of the public spaces. The rooms are all bungalow style and set in lovely tropical gardens.

The next day we took a stroll to Sugar Beach and were welcomed with a Sega Band.  Check-in was seamless and after a site inspection we were treated to a lovely barbeque picnic in the gardens. Sugar Beach is the perfect property for either a family or couples getaway. Besides the main pool – the biggest I’ve ever seen – the Hotel also offer a quiet pool which is set far apart and you can decide which suites you best. 

Mauritius is truly a wonderful vacation spot. I would recommend that every couple or family visit the island at least once!
